For the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of VJ Day in 2020 the Royal British Legion, in partnership with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League (RCEL), will be funding the travel and accommodation costs for a series of tours for veterans of the Asia-Pacific campaign, to key commemorative, and CWGC sites, across South and South East Asia. For those veterans who want to be part of activities in the UK, the Legion and the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) will be running a three day series of activities from the 14-16 August, which will include a national service of Remembrance.
As part of the commemorations in both Asia and at the NMA travel and accommodation will be provided for each veteran and a nominated companion to accompany them, a comprehensive Legion care support package will also be in place throughout to support veterans.
Descendants of veterans are very welcome to attend either commemorations in Asia or at the NMA but will need to fund their own travel and accommodation. The costs of the tours in Asia will be below commercial rate.
This ambitious programme of activities has been developed with the kind support of a broad range of related UK veteran associations.
